Safety Tips
Update your First Aid Skills. Everyday, whether at work or at home, the unexpected may come (like accidents),our first aid skills to a test. Are we knowledgeable enough to handle emergencies to save other peoples lives? Here are some up-to-date dos and don'ts from first aid experts for the most common cases:
Bloody Nose:Don't stuff the nose with tissue. It is not particularly effective. Don't hold your head back. You'll just have blood running down your throat. Do pinch your nostrils together firmly for a full 10 min. Most bleeding occurs in the lower third of the nose. This technique puts direct pressure on the wound. Once the the bleeding is slowed, a clot will form. Breathe through your mouth during the procedure.
Blister: Don't burst a small blister. It opens the skin to infection. If the blister breaks away, remove the dead skin and cover it with antibiotic lotion and a bandage. Try avoid anything that might irritate the area further. Do drain and remove the skin covering a large blister to minimize the chance of infection. Use a sterile, sharp instrument( niddle or knife should do) to break the blister. Then peel away the dead skin and cover it with antibiotic ointment and bandage.
